Hohenwerfen Fortress is a rock castle, situated on a 623 metres precipice overlooking the Austrian town of Werfen in the Salzach valley, approximately 40 kilometres south of Salzburg. The Hohenwerfen Fortress is around 25 minutes away from Siegi Tours and promises an adventures day.

The Hohenwerfen Fortress is surrounded by the Berchtesgaden Alps and the Tennen Mountains. Hohenwerfen is a “sister castle” of Hohensalzburg Castle, both built by the Archbishops of Salzburg in the 11th century.

The fortification was built between 1075 and 1078 at the behest of Archbishop Gebhard of Salzburg.

A lift is available to access the upper castle courtyard (optional) or you take a walk about 20 minutes.
